Here, he recalls how he came up with the idea:

“I was invited to a birthday party at an alpine chalet in South Tyrol, where the wine was flowing – quite literally! The guests were pouring large bottles of vintage red wine into their glasses with the help of a decanting device designed especially for large-format bottles.

But to my great disappointment, the machine wasn’t up to the task, spilling far too much of the precious wine in the process. And then there was the incredibly cumbersome procedure of securing the big bottle onto the holder, after which it failed to dispense the right amount into a glass. As someone with a genuine appreciation of fine wine and champagne, I knew that there had to be a better solution.

The passionate wine-drinker in me decided there and then to build a superior decanting cradle with a level of design, technology, precision and, above all, functionality that the wine world hadn’t seen before. And the aesthete in me decided that it would have to look great too.

Shortly afterwards, I asked my friend Erich Schwarm, who runs his own mechanical engineering company in the Allgaeu region, if he would partner up with me to help bring my idea to life. And we are also very grateful to Heinz Rauchenstein from the Bodega Altendorf in Switzerland for his support and invaluable input in the planning phase.

Things really began to take shape in December 2022 when we started producing parts for the first prototype. By May 2023 we were ready to test the machine’s functionality and soon realised that we had created something new for wine aficionados everywhere. By September 2023 we had finalised the basic prototype and patented our design. Now that our Decan-Torre Cradle is ready to make its mark on the wine world, it’s time to raise our glasses!”
